AstraOS Roadmap

Start with a working Linux base, then grow the AstraOS desktop and utilities step by step.

v0.1.1 Boot Hotfix · Previous release

The earlier Debian live image remains available in the release history.

Bootable base

Debian 13 live image with BIOS and UEFI boot entries.

AstraOS identity

Custom boot menu, splash, wallpaper, desktop defaults and welcome app.

Starter apps

XFCE, Firefox ESR, terminal, text editor, networking, disk tools and developer basics.

Next: physical hardware validation

Check the live image on representative PCs, including their graphics, Wi-Fi and storage devices. The unsigned UEFI loader may require Secure Boot to be disabled; hardware coverage is not yet established.

0.2.1-alpha · Preview built

The ISO contains office apps, ad blocking and defensive tools. BIOS/UEFI entries are present, but desktop startup and physical hardware still need validation.

Desktop settings

AstraOS settings panel, defaults and clearer first-run setup.

Software installer

A simple graphical path for finding and installing supported packages.

Guided security workstation

Nmap, Gobuster, Wireshark, tcpdump, Linux defense, code and binary analysis, plus forensics—all documented for authorized practice.

Office and browser

LibreOffice Writer, Calc and Impress, plus Firefox ESR with uBlock Origin for blocking many ads and trackers.

Safer defaults

AppArmor, deny-inbound firewall defaults and selected kernel/network hardening. These still need image-level validation.

Loopback-only practice site

The AstraOS Toolkit starts a static target bound to 127.0.0.1 so the first exercises stay on the local machine.

Custom OS research

Explore kernel, filesystem and desktop components as separate long-term work; they are not part of v0.1.
